The island
Skopelos is one of the most beautiful islands of Northern Sporades, also known as the greenest island in the Aegean sea.
It is one of the islands that you feel familiar with, probably from the landscapes of Mamma Mia and the photos from its emerald waters.
According to the legend, Skopelos was founded by Staphylos or Staphylus, one of the sons of the god Dionysos and the princess Ariadne of Grete.
Historically, in the Late Bronze Age, the island, known as Peparethos or Peparethus was colonised by Cretans, who introduced viticulture.
Visiting places
On the island you can visit countless traditional places.
In Skopelos you should visit the Ai - Giannis,which has built on a rock that rises 100 meters above the sea. Moreover, the Folklore Museum of Skopelos, which is housed in an impressive building of 1795, will give you an idea of the traditional Skopelos houses of the past centuries. Finally, do not skip the House of Paul Nirvana, which houses the Skopelos History Museum, where you will learn the History of the island from antiquity to the present day.
Food
In Skopelos there are several restaurants, tavernas and ouzeries with fresh food. Every visitor can enjoy a pleasant traditional meal in town, in the area of Elios, Agnontas or Panormos where the sun sets into the sea. The areas of Limnonari, Stafylos and Loutraki are still some places you can have a good meal. Finally, in Elios you can find traditional taverns and cafes that are pleasant meeting points offering good food and warm friendly atmosphere.
Entertainment
Skopelos, although renowned for its quietness, offers many opportunities for entertainment. The city centre of Skopelos has an incredible variety of cafes and clubs such as "Mercury Bar", "Vraxos", "Anemos" etc. , while in other parts of the island you can find nice places to spend the night. In Elios there is the "Palataki", a bistro bar that has cocktails with llive music sometimes. Also there is the "Mantalaki" that offers the best cocktails in the area. In area of Glossas, the "Monogram", a café bar with live music and the " Pithrakia " are good solutions for a night out. In Loutraki the "Glystra" is a club suitable for nightlife, which is located next to the sea offering an idyllic atmosphere.
Beaches - Water sports
Skopelos is popular for its beautiful crystal clear blue-green beaches, which are surrounded by countless pines. Some can be discovered either by crossing a path or by getting there by boat.
Milia: Famous and cosmopolitan beach. The sunset from here looks magical.
Stafylos: This is the beach you have seen more than any other on social media. A beautiful pine-covered cove with absolutely shallow waters, sand and fine pebbles.
Panormos: Μajestic, one of the largest (and most popular) beaches on the island. It also has a spectacular sunset.
Velanio: It has gained a reputation as a nudist beach. Here you will come by walking on the path from Stafylos and you will first meet the organized part with the beach bar.
Limnonari: Perhaps the most fluffy sandy beach on the island, it has crystal clear waters and a wonderful pine frame behind it. It is also organized.
Hovolo: Very popular beach in Elios. You will need to walk a little in the (shallow) water behind the rocks to find yourself in this small pebbled paradise with turquoise waters and dreamy silence. Obviously it will be worth it.
Ai-Giannis in Kastri: Below the small church of Ai Giannis, known from the movie Mamma Mia, is a pebble beach with incredible emerald waters.
